REAL Mountain Bike Triathlon

The REAL Mountain Bike Triathlon will have a $3,200 prize purse for Pro and Amateur athletes in 2019. The race will award $100 to each male and female winner of each group from Age group division from 19-under to 70+. There will be a $500 first place, $250 second place, and $150 third place prize for the top three overall male and female finishers in our Open division.

New for 2019: longer swim (1 mile), longer bike (24 miles), longer run (5 miles)

Included with your race entry is a safe, fantastic and very well marked course, a post race hot meal, raffle prizes, awards five-deep in each age group, and a REAL MTB Finisher Souvenir.

Relay Teams for The REAL Mountain Bike Triathlon consist of one swimmer, one cyclist and one runner. Entry fee includes three finisher souvenirs, athlete goody bags and post race meals. Awards for Relay Teams will be first overall in Male, Female and Coed divisions.

Start Time

  • Real MTB Triathlon: 9 am


  • Swim 1 mile – Bike 24 miles – Run 5 miles

wim – The race starts with a one mile, 2-lap swim in Folsom Lake, water temperature around 60 degrees. Wetsuits are permitted for all athletes.

Bike – The 24-mile bike course on single track trails around the lake is three loops with mixed terrain of single track, downhills, climbs, sand, and packed decomposed granite.

Run – The 5-mile run has a mix of trails and roads – along with some fun hills.


Transition Area

The Transition area will be on a first-come basis, with the exception of Reserved Bike Racks for TRI Clubs. The transition area at all TBF Racing events is for athletes only. All non-athletes must remain outside of the transition area at all times on race day. Bodymarking will be take place at the entrance to the transition area and must be completed before you enter the transition area. Athletes will have their race number marked on their legs and arms and have their age division on their calf. Glass or bottles are not allowed in the transition area.

Aid Stations

Aid stations will be located in the transition area and at mile one and two on the run course, serving cold water, energy gel, and Electrolyte beverage.


Expected water temperature for Folsom Lake will be 56-62 degrees. Wetsuits are strongly recommended. Swim fins and snorkels are not allowed. Helmets must be worn and buckled on the bike at all times. Run numbers must be worn on the run and when crossing the finish line. Listening devices of any kind: MP3, IPod, headphones, etc…are not allowed.
