No one needs to tell us that triathlons are absolutely grueling athletic events that test the limits of endurance. You might be surprised then about the huge number of celebrities who have participated in the event and proven their physical and mental resilience.
Any wild guesses yet?
Get ready to be surprised as we list seven celebrities who have won our admiration at their passionate participation in triathlons.
1.Jennifer Lopez
Singer and actress Jennifer Lopez, looks great these days, more than ever! Those booty workouts and dance moves might not be the only reason for the 47-year old singer to be in shape over the years.
Staggeringly, she was eight months pregnant with twins when she trained herself for a triathlon and then competed in the Nautica Malibu Triathlon, just six months after giving birth! And by the pictures, you can make out that she rocked the triathlon wetsuit with her lovely figure!
She clocked a time of 2:23:38, brilliant by any standards as it involved a half-mile swim, followed by a strenuous 18-mile bike ride and the cherry on the cake – a four-mile run along the Zuma beach footpath. She sure felt it was all worth it, and she even managed to raise $127,000 for Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles within 2.5 hours. What a superwoman!
2. Teri Hatcher
“Desperate Housewives” star Teri Hatcher competed in the Nautica Malibu triathlon more than once, proving her youthful energy and amazing endurance at 45, when she did it for the first time. She mentioned to People magazine that the triathlon was on her bucket list, along with “playing couple of songs on the guitar” and “ learning those fancy dances” from ‘Dancing with the Stars’ dance tutors.
She even clocked the best time of all female celebs at 2 hours and 6 minutes! She believes that her incredible fitness is due to her routine hard-core workout that includes 10-minute workout of 20 lunges, squats, shoulder presses, push ups and the like. She attributes her endurance to her interest in cycling, Pilates and swimming.
3.Claire Holt
“Vampire Diaries” star Claire Holt also competed in the 2012 marathon and clocked an incredible one hour and 44 minutes – securing the numerous Uno position in celebrity females.
Speaking to Teen Vogue, she mentioned her cause for participation – benefits for “pediatric cancer research at Children’s Hospital” in LA. Having seen the effects of cancer at a young age on her grandfather (and also because her father’s a doctor), she believes that everyone is in some way affected by this “really terrible disease”. This cause is indeed worth fighting for – way to go Claire!
4.Matthew McConaughey
Actor Matthew McConaughey – the star of “True Detective,” “Interstellar” and Oscar winning actor of “Dallas Buyers Club” is sure to look good in a triathlon wetsuit, and the fact is, he has donned them many times! He registered an impressive time of 1:43:48 at 2008 Nautica Malibu Triathlon. He is also a fitness and nutrition enthusiast with an impressive workout and diet regimen that he has followed for years.
5.Chris Harrison
Chris Harrison is one of the few celebrity triathletes who didn’t wear a triathlon wetsuit when he ran for the Nautica Malibu Triathlon in 2010. The host of “The Bachelor” and “The Bachelorette” has always managed to stay in shape, may be so that he could look good standing next to the hot bachelors on his shows. He clocked 2:03:45 at the triathlon, something that would put even the best celebrity triathletes to shame.
6.Ellie Kemper
Ellie Kemper, of “Bridesmaids” and “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” has participated in the triathlon an impressive three times, competing against Oscar Nunez and other stars in the 2011 Nautica Malibu Triathlon. She advises triathletes to be in a good zone the day before the race, getting the feet up with a chilled out mental state.
7. Pippa Middleton
She caught the attention of the media as the maid of honor at her sister Kate’s wedding to Prince William. But Pippa Middleton is a columnist and author in her own right. That’s not all though.
Middleton celebrated her 32nd birthday by turning up for the 50-mile ÖTILLÖ SwimRun event organized in Stockholm, Sweden. The race course consisted of 26 of the 1000 islands in the archipelago (sounds delightful and probably worth a visit!).
Thoroughly exhausted, she was quoted by Reuters, that it had been absolutely “relentless” equating the strain of the race to “three Ironman swims and 1.5 marathons”.
The event consisted of hopping over rocks and uneven ground but Middleton completed the trying course in an incredible 13 hours, 4 minutes and 24 seconds!
Isn’t it amazing how many of our favorite stars do not look their age, especially in those chic triathlon wetsuits? Completing a triathlon is no easy thing and it requires plenty of stamina, endurance, courage and enthusiasm, and these celebs surely have it in spades!
