Trust New England to bring its famous lobsters into a Triathlon. Participants can register as relay teams of 2-3 people as well as individual athletes in different categories. They also offer an Aquabike option which skips the run section of the race. The race starts off in the chilly waters of Casco Bay, winds through the scenic coastline of Freeport and Brunswick with a couple of climbs and rolling terrain on your bike and finishes with a run through the picturesque village of South Freeport.
The race ends with an exclusive after party – the Lobsterbake—featuring the famous Maine lobster, corn, coleslaw and cold beer. Simply put – beautiful countryside and great food! You really don’t need many more reasons to sign up for this race!

Distance: International Course— Swim: 1. 5 km (0.93miles); Bike: 25.08 miles; Run: 6.11 miles
Location: Tempe, Arizona
Website: http://www.tempetri.com/
This race is set in the same venue as IRONMAN Arizona so it’s a great way to get to know the course if you’re planning to participate in November. The swim section kicks off in the manmade Tempe Town Lake. The waters are normally quite calm unless there are high winds. Water temperatures are monitored until the beginning of the race and wetsuit rules may vary depending on the water temperature the actual race day itself. The bike course loops through urban Tempe and is relatively flat with a few scenic views of the Sonoran desert. The run is a 3.1-mile loop around Tempe Town Lake with some great views of Arizona State University.

Tempe is only a few minutes from the Phoenix Airport and is extremely accessible for athletes and their families.
- Escape to Miami
Date: September 24, 2017
Distance: International Course— Swim: 1. 5 km (0.93miles); Bike: 25.08 miles; Run: 6.11 miles
Location: Miami, Florida
Website: http://www.escapetomiamitriathlon.com
This famous race starts on Escape Island where swimmers brave the open (and sometimes choppy) waters of Biscayne Bay to Margaret Pace Park. The bike course consists of several short climbs so the race organizers actually recommend working this into your training. The bike section affords views of Escape Island and some of Miami’s well known mansions while the run course takes you past some of Miami’s architectural landmarks. Talk about a race and city tour in one!
The Mack Cycle Escape to Miami Triathlon presented by Voler is sanctioned by USA Triathlon. All participants must be a USAT member in order to compete in the event. However participants have the option to purchase a one day membership in order to compete in the race. There are plenty of divisions available to compete in the race so pick the one that suits you and get ready to race. A vacation with family (post-race of course) in sunny Florida is a lovely way to end months of training.

Apart from running with the shellfish theme (see Lobsterman above) that seems to be a trend among triathlons, the Musselman Tri has plenty to offer even for the most shy of beginners with its microMussel race that consists of a 100 meter swim, 0.5 mile bike ride and 0.2 mile run. The sprint distance race is also aimed at beginners. Wetsuits are normally allowed due to chilly water temperatures with in water starts and deep waters throughout the swim leg. The bike leg of the race is truly scenic as it passes along the shorelines of both Seneca and Cayuga Lakes before winding through wineries and the Sampson State Park. The run takes you through the city of Geneva finishing at the same shaded path where it started.
The Musselman race is held in “the heart of the Finger Lakes”, internationally known for exceptional wines, so what better place for a romantic getaway after all the hard training.
